Research

I am interested in environmental microbiology and microbial ecology.  I use a combination of culture based, sequencing, and metabolomics approaches to understand the interactions within microbial communities.  My current research centers around microbial communities associated with two biofuels relevant systems: algae and switchgrass.  My goals are to investigate the role of metabolite exudation in microbial community recruitment by algae and plants, and to understand metabolite exchange and interactions within these systems.
